Privacy policy

This policy explains what TeachIn collects, why, who it is shared with, and the choices you have. TeachIn is provided by Brilliantinkk Private Limited, which operates TeachIn ("we"). It is written to be read — if anything is unclear, ask us at support@teachin.co.in.

1. What we collect

  • Your account: your name and email address. Your password is stored only in scrambled form (scrypt); we cannot read it.
  • Your profile: what you choose to add — headline, subjects, boards, phase, years of experience, city and an about section.
  • Phone notifications, if you switch them on: a delivery address for each device you choose, and which kinds of notification you want. Notifications travel through your phone maker's push service (Google, Apple or Mozilla), encrypted so that only your device can read them. Switch them off at any time in Settings.
  • Your growth plan: if you add one — your goals, your five-year plan, the exams you plan to take, and your country.
  • EduLocker and your CV: the certificates you upload, and the CV you upload or build (including any email or phone you choose to put on it).
  • Your pictures: the profile picture and banner you upload. Hidden details inside the file, such as where a photo was taken, are removed before it is saved.
  • EDGE: if you sit the assessment — your answers, your score, the grade and EDGE ID it gives, and when you sat it.
  • What you share: posts, comments, likes, community memberships, connections and reports.
  • Messages: the messages you send and receive, with any photos, documents and voice messages attached; message requests; and the people you have blocked.
  • Jobs: the posts you apply to, when, and the status the school gives the application.
  • School and organisation pages: the page details, its admins, what it posts, and what was used to verify it — for example the school email address a code was sent to, or the reference of a document you emailed us.
  • Payments: the plan or promotion bought, the amount, and Razorpay's order and payment references. Card, UPI and bank details go to Razorpay, not to us — we never see or store them.
  • Signing in: a cookie that keeps you signed in, a record of the device's browser type for each signed-in session, and the time of each sign-in.
  • Safety records: when something you try to post is blocked under the Community guidelines — which rule, where, when, and a short excerpt of the text. Images that are blocked are never kept. If an account is locked, when and why.
We do not ask for your phone number, and we do not collect your location beyond the city you type.

2. Why we use it

  • To run your account and show your profile, posts and messages to other signed-in teachers.
  • To show you jobs, and to send your profile to a school only when you apply to it, or — if you switch on "Open to a move" — when TeachIn puts you forward.
  • To verify that school pages are run by the schools they name.
  • To take payments, grant plans and promotions, and refund unused promotion days.
  • To send the emails the service needs: confirming your address, password resets, verification codes and decisions.
  • To grade the EDGE assessment and issue its certificate.
  • To keep TeachIn safe: checking what is posted against the Community guidelines, dealing with reports, spam, impersonation and fraud, and locking accounts that keep breaking the rules.

3. Who can see what

  • Signed-in teachers can see your name, profile, posts and comments. Messages — with their attachments and voice messages — are seen only by the two people in the conversation. Someone you are not connected with can send you a message request; it waits under Requests and does not notify you. Someone you block cannot message you and is not told.
  • The TeachIn Directory: signed-in members can browse and find educators by name, subject, board and place. It shows only your name, photo, headline, subjects, boards, city and country — never your email, phone, or whether you are open to a move — and it is never shown to search engines. You can leave the Directory at any time in Settings.
  • Your weblink, if you generate one: anyone with the link or its QR code can open your business-profile card — your name, photo, headline, subjects, boards, experience, location, EDGE grade, About, the certificates you have chosen to show and, if you include it, your CV. Search engines cannot find it unless you allow that in Settings. You can turn your weblink off at any time.
  • Your certificates and CV are private. A certificate is seen by others only if you choose to show it on your profile; your CV only when you use it.
  • Schools cannot search for job candidates. The Directory never shows whether you are looking for work. A school learns that you are interested in a role only if you apply to it, or if you switch on "Open to a move" and TeachIn puts you forward. That switch is off unless you turn it on.
  • Your email address and phone number are never shown on TeachIn to anyone.
  • Your EDGE grade shows on your profile, with a gold tick beside your name. Anyone who has your EDGE ID — for example a school you give it to — can check your name and grade in the public register and see your EDGE certificate. The register cannot be searched by name.
  • Safety records are seen only by the TeachIn team.
  • Promoted posts: a school that promotes a post learns only how many teachers it reached — never who.
  • Your profile is not public and search engines do not see it — unless you switch on your public profile card, which shows only your name, teaching details and EDGE grade to anyone with its link. You can switch it off at any time.

4. Who we share it with

We do not sell your information and we do not show third-party advertising. We use a small number of service providers, only for the purposes above:
  • DigitalOcean — our servers, in Bangalore, India. Your data is stored in India.
  • Resend — sends TeachIn's emails; it receives the address and the content of each email.
  • Razorpay — takes payments and makes refunds.
  • Anthropic — checks each picture you upload (profile picture, banner, or a photo in a message) for nudity, sexual or violent content and images of children, before anyone can see it. And when you tap TeachIn AI in a message, it receives your draft — and, for "Suggest a reply", the message you are replying to — and suggests text for you. This happens outside India; under its commercial terms Anthropic does not use it to train its models. Nothing else you share is sent to Anthropic, and TeachIn AI never sends a message for you.
  • GoDaddy — hosts the support@teachin.co.in mailbox.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect people from harm.

5. How long we keep it

  • Your account and profile: for as long as the account is open.
  • Posts, comments and messages, with their attachments and voice messages: until you delete them or close your account. Deleting a message deletes its attachment.
  • Unused sign-in links and codes expire within 30 minutes; signed-in sessions end after 90 days, or when the browser closes if you untick "keep me signed in".
  • Documents emailed to us for page verification: deleted once the review is done.
  • Your pictures: until you replace them or close your account. A replaced picture is deleted.
  • Certificates in EduLocker and your CV: until you delete them or close your account.
  • EDGE answers and grades: while your account is open. Sitting again replaces your grade.
  • Safety records: 12 months, then deleted automatically.
  • Payment records: for as long as tax and accounting law requires.

6. Your rights

Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 you can ask us to:
  • tell you what personal data we hold about you and how it is used;
  • correct or complete it — most of it you can edit yourself in your profile and settings;
  • erase it, by closing your account;
  • nominate someone to exercise these rights for you if you cannot.
To do any of these, Write to support@teachin.co.in, for the attention of Satyasri Kedarisetty, Grievance Officer, or by post to Nakshatra Complex, Road No.36, Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad, Telangana, India Pincode-500033. We reply within 30 days. You can also complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

7. Cookies

TeachIn uses one cookie that keeps you signed in. It is needed for the service to work. We use no advertising or tracking cookies and no analytics that follow you across other websites.

8. Children

TeachIn is a professional network for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, tell us and we will close it.

9. Security

Passwords are stored with scrypt; sign-in links, codes and sessions are stored only as one-way hashes; every page is served over HTTPS. No system is perfectly secure — if we learn of a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.

10. Changes and contact

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you by email or on TeachIn before it takes effect.
