What a school will actually ask you

Not the generic ones. These are the questions Indian school leaders open with, and what they are listening for.

The written roundUsually first, and usually subject knowledge.
The demonstration lessonTwenty to thirty minutes, often with a class you have never met.
With the head of departmentPlanning, data and how you work with others.
With the principalJudgement, conduct and fit.
Take me through a lesson that did not work.

They are testing whether you diagnose or blame. Name the misconception you missed and what you changed the next day.

How do you know a class has understood?

Anything other than "I ask if they have questions". Exit tickets, targeted questioning, the misconception you check for.

A parent says you are marking their child harshly. What happens next?

Whether you can hold a standard and a relationship at once. Evidence first, defensiveness never.

How do you plan for the child who finished in four minutes?

Stretch that is not just more of the same. They want depth, not volume.

What have you learnt in the last year?

A specific thing, recently, that changed your teaching. "Nothing comes to mind" ends interviews.

Where do you want to be in five years?

Honesty beats flattery. A head teacher would rather hear "leading a department" than "still here".

One question worth rehearsing properly.

Almost every Indian school interview ends with "do you have any questions for us?" — and almost every candidate says no. Ask what the department did about its weakest cohort last year. It is the one question that makes a head teacher think about you after you have left the room.
