The board awards one of fifteen grades. It is recorded on the teacher's profile with a unique EDGE ID, and it stays with them when they change schools.

A school cannot grade its own staff up, and cannot grade a departing teacher down. That is the whole reason the board sits outside the school.
Evidence is required for every claim. An unevidenced band is not awarded, however long somebody has taught.
A grade never falls because of one bad term. Bands move on a body of work.
Grades are not published to parents or learners. They exist for the teacher and the schools they choose to show.
A teacher carries their grade between schools — it belongs to them, not to an employer.
