◈ ICSE → IB

The largest change of the three — from teaching a syllabus to teaching a framework.

IB is inquiry-led with criterion-referenced assessment, and asks the teacher to design units rather than deliver them. Subject knowledge transfers; almost nothing about planning and marking does.

What the 36 hours cover

  1. MYP and DP structure, and where an ICSE teacher fits
  2. Unit planning: key concepts, related concepts, global context
  3. Criterion-referenced assessment, and why it is not percentages
  4. Approaches to Learning woven through a unit rather than bolted on
  5. Internal assessment, moderation and the IB's own standards
  6. Theory of Knowledge, the Extended Essay, and what a subject teacher owes them
  7. Academic honesty as taught practice, not a policy document
Subject knowledge transfers. Planning and marking mostly do not. That is the whole reason this path exists as its own thing rather than a chapter in an induction pack.
